| THEATER
WORKSHOPS, CLASSES & ENSEMBLE PRODUCTION PROGRAMS |
| Children, youth
and young adults who participate in all of our programs not
only have fun and create great theater but they make new
friends, reconnect with old ones, learn about themselves,
gain confidence, discover and/or nurture social and creative
skills, focus on working together towards a common goal and
more, all while in an environment that is geared towards
acceptance, fairness and kindness.
All of our programs are where wonderful memories are
made – not only for us but for our students, cast members
and their families alike. |
PRE-SCHOOL
AGE WORKSHOPS & CLASSES
Where: Offered at day care and pre-school locations
throughout the area or space(s) leased by the SECRYT.
When: Quarterly or as requested by a
pre-school/agency/organization.
What: Six (6) week program meeting one (1) hour a
week in which children’s' books are adapted into scripts
for use in the classroom. Each child is given a role to play
and the "scripts" are staged for easy
comprehension and participation for this age group. Children
are taught common theater words and acting techniques. The
cast's final day is a performance for family and friends
with the pre-school hosting a "cast party"
following the performance. |
HOME
SCHOOL AND AFTER SCHOOL WORKSHOPS & CLASSES
Where: Home School Programs are offered at space(s) leased by
the SECRYT or at
locations as requested by home school networks or agencies.
After School Programs (often offered through
Municipal Parks & Recreation Departments) are conducted
at local schools, community centers, etc.
When: Spring and Fall - offered during the day during
the week for home school families and for private/public
school families, after school during the afternoon and on
Saturdays.
What: Elementary, middle and high school aged
children, youth and young adults meet once a week.
Divided into age and/or skill level groups with
classes meeting for 1 ˝ hour or 2 hours (depending on age
and/or skill set). Age appropriate materials are used in
each class with the intention of affording student
instruction in individual and ensemble performing. Classes
focus on cast members working together as a team, being
supportive of one another while working towards the common
goal of each other’s success as individuals and as a
group. Theater techniques to include (but not limited
to) projection, line-memorization, character development and
stage presence are covered, rehearsed and performed.
These sessions culminate in performances for family and
friends.

FULL
LENGTH PRODUCTIONS WITH PUBLIC PERFORMANCES
Where: Venues leased by the SECRYT or, provided by the agency who secured
the services of the SECRYT.
What: Full
productions of scripted plays, musicals, comedies, etc.
Children, youth and young adults are introduced to the
audition process as well as a full rehearsal schedule that,
if appropriate, includes practicing dialogue, blocking,
learning vocal parts as well as specific choreography.
Also included in our full-length productions are
opportunities for youth and young adults to learn be
exposed, learn and practice the technical disciplines of
theater to include (but not limited to) set construction,
make-up, costuming, stage crew, lighting.
Youth and young adults make our stage management and
running crews for all of our shows. |
SUMMER
MUSICAL THEATER PROGRAM/CAMP WITH PUBLIC PERFORMANCES
Where: Rented
theater space in the southeastern/eastern Connecticut area.
When: Generally,
the last week of June through the end of July (subject to
change). Camp runs Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm (10) performances
at the end of July.
What: Our summer
theater program is designed to give its cast members the
broadest and most all around theater experience possible.
Each and every cast member will be involved in
learning, rehearsing and performing vocal parts,
choreography and character acting as taught and guided by a
musical director, choreographer and stage director.
In addition to participating in focused rehearsal
activities, cast members will devote time to the creation of
props and set as well as set and venue decorations.
Our summer camps culminate with ten (10) public
performances in which three weeks of hard work and fun merge
with stage lighting, costumes, make-up, sound, music, live
audiences and APPLAUSE!
Every child,
youth and young adult registered in the program is
guaranteed a part. |
BROADWAY,
OFF-BROADWAY, LOCAL THEATER FIELD TRIPS
Where:
Venues located in/around Manhattan; local and
regional theaters.
When: At least
once every 4 months.
What: Reduced ticket group trips to New York City to see selected
On and Off Broadway shows.
In addition to attending matinee’ performances,
groups consisting of youth and young adults have an
opportunity to attend a 90 minute theater related class
instructed by a member of the cast of the show that the
students have been schedule to attend.
Travel to Manhattan is via Metro-North Railroad from
New Haven to Grand Central Station.
Time spent in New York includes the attendance at the
class, time for lunch and then attendance at what is
generally a 2:00pm curtain show. Pricing of the NYC trip includes round trip train ticket,
attendance at the class, a ticket for the matinee’ show
and a chaperone provided by The SECRYT.
Local excursions include traveling to regional
theaters to include (but not limited to) Long Wharf Theater
In New Haven, The Bushnell in Hartford.
Locally, group attendance at The O’Neill Center in
Waterford as well as local community theater and high school
performances. |
OTHER
ACTIVITIES
The SECRYT
customizes programs for special interest groups and is
developing a Theater Birthday Party product.
The SECRYT is interested in expanding it’s
offerings, responding to the interests of the community;
working with other performing arts entities and seizing
opportunities to become involved in other aspects of the
performing arts in southeastern Connecticut and beyond. |

Tuition
Fees, Field Trip Fees and Performance Ticket Purchases:
Please note our sales & refund policy: 1) all performance
ticket sales are final. Refunds are not granted for the sale of
tickets for performances nor are exchanges for future performances
allowed; 2) a refund of 50% of a tuition payment made will be paid
to a student if he/she withdraws from a session for which they
have registered/paid for when the withdrawal occurs anytime prior
to the calendar day on which the session is scheduled to begin; 3)
tuition payments are non-refundable any time on or after the
calendar date on which the session is to begin; 4) field trip
payments are non-refundable nor are exchanges for future field
trips allowed; 5)
should the SECRYT cancel a session, field trip or remove a
registered student from a session or field trip roster, the SECRYT
shall refund 100% of all payments accordingly. The SECRYT charges
$25.00 for returned checks. (V3-081406)
